UK Passes Same-Sex Marriage Bill

gay-marriage-729-620x349The UK has officially joined the handful of countries enabling Gay Marriage to be officially recognised after much debate between religious and conservative groups.

The Marriage Bill – often referred to as the Same Sex Couples Bill – will enable same-sex couples to marry in both civil and religious ceremonies.

Couples who have previously entered into civil partnerships can now translate their relationship into a government-recognised marriage.

There have been multiple comments throughout the debate with Roger Gale even calling the bill ‘Orwellian’ but Prime Minister David Cameron stands strong behind the bill claiming it will make the UK stronger.

“It is not possible to redefine marriage. Marriage is the union between a man and a woman, has been historically, remains so. It is Alice in Wonderland territory, Orwellian almost, for any Government of any political persuasion to seek to come along and try to re-write the lexicon. It will not do.” – Roger Gale
