Several World Nations Begin Multistakeholder Meeting on Future of Internet

netmundial-450x253-19feb14-en.png

This week, the world’s nations will gather to discuss the influence the US employs over the internet in light of the constant claims to moderation, censorship and awareness the United States have thrown. Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff demanded the meeting be held after the worldwide anger that stemmed from the disclosures about US spying in documents leaked by Edward Snowden. The US Department of Commerce has agreed to give up its control of ICANN — the body which coordinates the internet’s global domain name system (.com, .org, .net etc.) — and at a conference in Brazil this week the group…

MH370: As Misinformation Grows, Malaysian Government Considering Action Against ‘Manufactured Reports’

MH370.jpg

The Malaysian government is contemplating taking legal action against media outlets (mostly Chinese and Western) which have ‘intentionally’ mislead or created speculation on the Boeing 777 MH370 Plane that has been missing for almost a month. This news comes with the clarification that the last words spoken on the ATC transcript differed from that of news reports. "The cabinet has instructed the attorney general to compile evidence and advise," acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein stated. “We have been compiling all the false reports since Day 1. When the time is right, the government should sue them” The report had also…

Japan’s Whaling Is Commercial and Not Scientific; International Court of Justice Rules

whaling_in_the_faroe_islands-1.jpg

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has governed that Japan’s whaling program is not for scientific purposes and has forbidden the granting of further permits. The ICJ’s ruling is final and cannot be appealed. The finding by a 16-judge panel at the ICJ is in favour of Australia’s argument that Japan’s whaling program is carried out only for commercial purposes rather than scientific research. Japan has been able to kill limitless numbers of whales in the Antarctic under the treaty, arguing that they do so for scientific purposes. Peter Tomka of Slovakia, the presiding judge, stated: "In light of the…

MH370: Maritime Authority Begins Searching Off of Perth After Satellite Shows ‘Debris-like’ Objects

clip_image001.jpg

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority has established that the largest of multiple objects believed to be debris related to the Missing Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777 (MH370), identified in the Indian Ocean, approximately 2,300km southwest of Perth, is approximately 24 metres long. Whilst the satellite images released are grainy and unintelligible to most eyes, many are stating that it’s the best lead we have right now to solving the mystery of the vanished plane. AMSA have released a new search map, showing the location of a possible debris field. As of this posting, there have been no solid confirmations of finding…

wpid-wp-1394283551109.jpeg

A Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew that went missing over the South China Sea earlier today has presumably crashed according to officials. The airline has stated that search and rescue teams from countries surrounding the plane’s flight path had been sent to scour a large area near its last known location. The Boeing 777-200ER flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing had gone off the radar in the early morning. If the plane has crashed, it would mark the airliner’s deadliest incident. Malaysia’s flag carrier said flight MH370 disappeared, without giving a distress signal, at 2.40am local…
