41 Year Old Man Charged With the Murder and Rape of Irish Woman Jill Meagher in Australia.

A 41-year-old Australian man, Adrian Ernest Bayley has been arrested in relation to the Jill Meagher disappearance. It has been confirmed that she was found dead and that Mr. Bayley is expected to front the Melbourne court before 3pm today (28th September 2012, AEST).

We have obtained and published the image of Adrian Bayley from his since-removed Facebook profile.

The Victoria police homicide squad confirmed that Bayley had assisted their search for Meagher’s body. Her remains were located off a dirt road in Gisborne South.

Reports have confirmed that Bayley had raped and murdered the 29-year-old close to her home.

Meagher had been missing since the 22nd of September.

Police will allege that the crime was opportunistic and that the abduction of Jill Meagher was spontaneous.

Adrian Bayley was known to police PRIOR to this incident with our (unverifiable yet trustworthy) sources telling us he had been imprisoned before and was known for sexually assaulting or harassing somebody in the past.

According to our sourches, Adrian Ernest Bayley was known as Adrian Edwards before he legally changed his name 12 years ago, had been living in a granny flat in a quiet, tree-lined street of Coburg in Melbourne’s north before his arrest on Thursday.

The coroner has stated that the body has been removed from the location unto which it was found and that the police will continue to conduct forensic analysis of the scene, but they are not searching for anyone in connection with her final moments.

We can’t say anything as of yet (because we need to verify the information) but Bayley may have been known to police prior to this incident.

Our sincerest condolences go to her family, friends and colleagues.

And while I appreciate all the support, I would just like to mention that negative comments on social media may hurt legal proceedings, so please be mindful of that. I would also like to say that if the media could respect the privacy of the Meaghers and the McKeons at this time that would be brilliant, thank you.”

    Yes a fair trial is obviously important but some crimes are so dreadful that there will be public revulsion no matter what. It will be hard to find a jury who has not heard of this crime but I am sure he will get a fair hearing. However, he obviously confessed as the police found the body after questioning him so I dont think there will be a trial. He will take a plea and crawl off to some dark hole where I hope his conscience torments him for the rest of his life.

      Yes, in cases like this if they want a fair trail that is not affected by society’s judgement then they should not use a jury. Irony that they talk about society being influenced because they then select a jury from society for society to pass judgement.

But if everyone believed Someone who cannot be fooled or bribed and knows everything we do (even in secret) will be there at the end to judge us according to the lives we have led, wouldn’t everyone live better lives?         Bayley (and the vast majority of the German army in WWII who were,
        along with almost all Europeans at the time, confessing Christians) was
        not seeking this.

        being a) mentally healthy and b) brought up in a supportive and loving
        social situation. Note that religions themselves, mental illness and

        to protect us, how did it not protect Jill ?

        Well, for me, I believe everything happens for a reason, although I might forever not understand it. While I feel sad for Jill, but never before a crime has united Melbourne & bring attention like this, so hopefully after this the authorities will do something to lower down crime rates. If it’d been someone else, another prostitute maybe, would people give such an attention like this? Maybe Adrian’d still walk the streets freely? we never know.
        My friend’s dad had an unfortunate accident last year. While the accident’s a sad thing, it actually brought the family back together after years of ‘not speaking to each other’. So in the end, there’s a good thing out of it.
        Whether we believe in God or not,hopefully we’re wise enough to lead a life without hurting others. And when it’s our ‘turn’ that something bad happens to us (touch wood!),hopefully we’ll still have the strength to be able to see the ‘light’ out of it.

        I agree with you Vicky, everything does happen for a reason. In other words, there is a reasonable explanation. Reason does not involve gods.
        
        And yes, events often have unexpected consequences. That’s the origin of the old sayings “every cloud has a silver lining” and “It’s an ill wind that blows nobody good”. So you can easily use such aphorisms to make something good out of Jill’s rape and murder.
        
        But that isn’t the point. It’s the event itself that we are thinking about. The suffering, the trauma and the assertion which some people make that she is “in heaven” now. This is a profoundly immoral stance. Why ? Because in asserting that some good has come from this it characterises Adrian’s behaviour as having in some way a positive outcome. (Jill now being as happy as she can possibly be).
        
        I hope you can see that this is an attempt to lighten the burden of responsibility. No, there is nothing that qualifies as “good” or a “silver lining” from this. Someone may get some money from her insurance policy. Would this in any way make his actions “good” ? I say no. In this case the money will be no doubt a helpful consequence but not morally good because of the original cause.
        
        Not hurting others. This is the basis for the ancient (well pre bible) maxim of “Do as you would be done by”. In modern moral philosophy, there is a new way of putting this which I prefer: “Do to others as they would have you do unto them”. In other words, ask what they would prefer rather than assuming you know what they want. The biblical “Do as you would be done by” leaves it open for someone who wants to die violently to kill someone in the hope that they will be themselves killed in the act. It carries the assumption that some authority figure can actually know what’s best for others without consultation, one of the mainstays of the Abrahamic religions.

        Well, if I were Jill’s husband, I’d be very devastated. I’d hate Adrian to the bones. But I don’t think that all those hatred and anger would help me in anything. The more I could see there’s still something good out of it, the faster I could pick up all the pieces left in my life, let go ‘the past’ and move on. Otherwise, I think, it’d just make the pain even harder to bear, harder to let go. Seeing that so many people care = 1 good thing. You mentioned about insurance – I honestly didn’t think about it – well, good point! It’s a good thing too, better than not having insurance still. Maybe it could be spent to set up a foundation in Jill’s name to help other rape victims? Anything good out of it, I’d try to appreciate. Well, Since I don’t think I’d have any other choice to change the course that had already happened. I just believe, that whatever happens, I still have to learn the best way to ‘live’ with it. Whether Adrian’s behavior is good/bad? May he get burnt in hell, rot in jail? What made him do this despicable thing? etc – For me, if I could care less about him, the more I could “forget” him & move on.
        Well, my point of view of “not hurting others” is more from my own “inside” not “outside”. If my intention is good, and people still take it badly, than that’s not something I can control – so back again – if something bad happens, hopefully I could still learn from it (to make sure that won’t happen again) and manage how to let it go.
        But again, you or others can disagree with my views, but so far this what works for me to help reducing stress in my life :) Whether Jill is now happily in heaven – I don’t know, but my hope now is that Jill’s family can let her go and have strength to move on.

        I suspect you think you know them because you accept the dogma which you were exposed to during your life. Just imagine that you had been born at a different place and time. And exposed to different teachings. You would now “know” and believe different things.
        
        About forgiving those who do things like Adrian did. This is one of the morally unsupportable aspects of Christianity. Because of the doctrine of redemption, any act can be forgiven. Except one, the refusal to believe in Yahweh. This really does not make sense unless Yahweh is some kind of narcissist. How exactly is not believing in something for which there is no evidence a worse moral action than what Adrian did ? No I am afraid that Yahweh’s moral character is rooted in the desert tribes of the ancient middle east, and that is where it belongs.
        
        I take from what you say about “free will” that you do not believe in an interventionist god, despite the fact that the ancient texts say it is. In that case it is a useless god with no impact on our lives except to send some to eternal punishment for the crime of not believing, while Adrian can be in some celestial theme park.
        
        So the notion of “being held accountable” after death does not come up. What is more effective and useful and results in more moral behaviour is the prospect of “being held accountable” in the here and now. That is why we have laws. If there was some overseeing entity which actually cared about human suffering there would not be suffering. You cannot escape this by saying that we have “free will” given to us by some supervisor. If “free will” has to be given to you it’s not free. Just consider that. If you breath in a lungful of air, has anyone given you that ? No, it’s actually free. It comes from nature. The ability to make decisions also comes from nature. What those who have been infected by the Abrahamic cults have done is to personalise nature. To you, you may well think that Yahweh has given you that breath of air. This is false reasoning and there is no evidence for it.

  The tattoo on his left arm matches the one of the guy police had in the car as shown on most media sites. That combines with the fact it was taken from a facebook profile of a man with the same name as the accused is pretty compelling. And there is no such thing as “stealing” people’s facebook photos if they have a public profile..they are freely downloadable.

  The death penalty is only a worse penalty for the convict than imprisonment for life if that is what the convict fears more. Many convicts kill themselves in jail because they can’t stand their life of imprisonment. It’s just too simplistic to insist on the death penalty in every case for this crime or for that crime.

I just hope when the trial comes that if found guilty he is sentenced to life with no minimum or at least 35 years so he is not in a position to do this again if ever released as a very old man.

condemned, encouraged or supported the opinions of others and furthermore we
have not intentionally enticed any person of interest involved to endorse the

Whilst many will criticise our decision to publish an image
of Mr. Bayley as bad taste, we are 100% committed to the transparency and
disclosure of a man who has admitted to taking the life of another.

There is absolutely no truth to the claim that we intend to
damage a murder trial and whilst we know of the moral implications that are
being held against us, we have not interfered with future litigations or

What an amazing chain of public opinion. Having had 30 years of law enforcement experience I can attest to the road that awaits this calculated recidivist sexual predator. He will immediately be classified as a prisoner at risk and isolated. Upon his eventual plea of guilty he will be taken to another protected prison at Sale. How did the handbag end up back in an area that had already been searched by police? The fact that there are so many anomalies in this case are what make it so fascinating to the public.

If the police were so adamant about keeping things quiet then they would not have told the press that they had charged a Mr. Adrian Ernest Bailey for the crime that occurred at this location, with the body found at that location
  There are places on the net that published not only the photo but links and pictures from Google maps to her apartment and other irrelevant case details.

I fail to see how you can accuse this site as the publisher of being a “creep” when there is nothing that they have said that would convince idiots to hunt the guy’s family down or similar. Besides, there is absolutely no court of law that could oppress an opinion by a faceless commenter who is free to write whatever he or she wants. i am not againt adrian, i realise what he did was wrong but he is not to blame we know what he is, but what does that say about the legal system they use him as a tool for thiere profit,, its the legal system ,that released him into the public ,you as a parent with teenage girls that you send to school ,every morning and there are serial rapists living in your suburb maybe even in your street.and thats just one how many more are living in our suburbs and we know nothing,,

Bayley was WELL known to Wyndham police and the locals. He took a few hidings from some local lads for harrassing women. The local police got sick of him and also gave him a hiding and told him to get out of town, which he did.

I do not believe that any of you know Adrian well enough to make comments about him. Adrian is well aware that he has gone too far this time and he feels terrible about the whole situation. Whatever said and done, I’ll always be on Adrian’s side because he is my friend. I do apologise on his behalf to all of Jillian’s family that has been hurt by his actions, he is torn apart because of what he has done, however nothing can be done now to change the situation and go back. It’s very sad, Adrian is now trying to change for the better and I’m helping him to do that, as on the core Adrian is a kind-hearted person. I would appreciate if you would stop labelling my friend in very low terms. Thank you.

    I was not trying to justify Adrian’s actions, I was only trying to say that he feels very remorseful about what has happened, and if he didn’t have a heart, obviously he wouldn’t have felt bad about any of it.
    So just because your friend makes an honest mistake, you’re saying that you’ll just walk away, just like that? Well, I was taught that forgiveness is important in any kind of relationship and to find happiness within ourselves, so that’s the course I’m taking and helping Adrian to take as well. Adrian has never hurt me (I’m a girl!) and I believe he never will either, so yeah. He’s been good to me throughout, so I have no good reason to not like him and not speak for him.
